Westlife’s Shane Filan is to star at “Hear the City Sing,” the free public event being held in Derry next Friday.
Hosted by Edith Bowman, from BBC Radio One, the event will also feature local acts Little Bear and The Clameens.
The first of Derry”s City of Culture legacy events, the outdoor show will be take place from 7.30pm in the Peace Garden/Foyle Street car park from 7.30pm.
The show will culminate at around 9.00pm with the launch of the spectacular visual Global Rainbow art installation.
Derry Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly said he was delighted Shane Filan had been confirmed to perform.
He said: “This announcement is just one of a number of significant announcements for the city as part of our legacy promise for our year as 2014 City of Music.
“Hear the City Sing provides the perfect combination of local talent with that of an internationally recognised performer, combining music and visual art at an inspiring event which will reach out to a wide ranging audience within and outside the city. Aptly timed to bridge the gap between last year and the beginning of the brand new year ahead.”
“A symbolic representation of new beginnings, creative inspiration and hope for the city will be translated by the crescendo at the end of the event, when at approximately 9.00pm Yvette Mattern’s Global Rainbow will be illuminated, beaming a spectrum of lazer coloured lights across the banks of the Foyle for five nights, creating a natural perspective arc of a rainbow symbolically connecting people, areas and time. This will be an emotive and engaging experience.”
