Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson.

The Sinn Fein representative said she signed the Pledge as part of her ongoing support for human rights and equality for all sections of society regardless of ethnic, religious or sexual orientation.

Ms Anderson said the “Coming Out” Pledge was directed against discrimination of the LGB&T (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community and in signing it I she also supported Principle Six which condemns the discriminatory anti-gay Russian legislation which was not just wrong but ran “totally” against the principles of the Olympic spirit at a time when Russia was hosting the Winter Olympics at Sochi.

She concluded: “The international community must send the strongest message possible that discrimination against anyone on the grounds of sexuality, religion or ethnicity is wrong and unacceptable.”
