Councillor Bridget Meehan was speaking after visiting the scene just off the Victoria Road in the Waterside following complaints from local residents.

The Sinn Fein representative has called on anyone with information on those responsible to “immediately” contact the environmental health officer at Derry City Council.

Cllr Meehan said: “Residents from various parts of the Waterside had raised concerns with me about dumping which they said was taking place on land just off the Victoria Road.

“When I went to the site of the dumping I was shocked at the scale of it .It was an absolute eyesore and its was taking place just yards from areas which would be considered local beauty spots overlooking the River Foyle. And the main Derry to Strabane road.”

She concluded: “It is an environmental and safety hazard. I will be in contact with Council officials about this.”
