Traffic calming measures are to be introduced at Aberfoyle Crescent in Derry, according to a local councilllor.
Sinn Féin Northlands Collr Mickey Cooper said he welcomed confirmation that the area had been ranked fifth in the Roads Service traffic calming scheme listings.
Cllr said a survey, which resulted from a long term lobby by Councillor Cooper and local residents, meant there were practical options in place for resolving some of the traffic issues in the area:
He said: “I am pleased with the traffic calming survey results in that they provide a realistic chance that the area will have a traffic calming scheme in place within the next one to two years.
“I have been working with local residents and the DRD Roads Service for several years to try to resolve the numerous traffic issues in the area.
“Traffic speed was a key issue which led to the request for the traffic survey that has now opened the way for a scheme to be designed for the area.”
Cllr Cooper is to meet with local residents in the next few weeks to advise them of the results and the next stages of the process.
He concluded: “I also continue to lobby Roads Service to make progress on the implementation of the residents parking scheme in the Bogside which when in place will open the door for other areas such as Aberfoyle to bid for similar schemes”
