Lives are being put at risk by quad bikes and scramblers being driven through local housing estates late at night, a local councillor has claimed.
Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly has revealed he has been in contact with police and the Community Restorative Justice (CRJ) project following complaints from residents in the Grangemore and Ardgrange areas.
In the run up to Christmas, the PSNI in the city warned they would seize and scrap quads and off-road bikes being driven in public areas.
Cllr Kelly said: “These machines are being driven late at night along the roads in these housing developments placing motorists and pedestrians in danger.
“Quads are off road vehicles they should not be driven in highly populated areas on dark winter nights.
“It has been a case that people may have turned a blind eye to the way these bikes are being driven about the place but it is now time that action was taken.”
Calling for a “more effective enforcement strategy to deal with the dangers posed by off-road bikes/quads, Cllr Kelly revealed he had been in contact with the local CRJ and the PSNI to highlight residents’ concerns.
