Gates are to be erected at laneways at a number of streets in Derry’s Rosemount and Creggan areas in an attempt to shut out anti-social behaviour.
Following the approval from local residents, Derry City Council is to put up gates at Rathmor Crescent in Creggan and at Epworth Street, Lower Nassau Street, Nassau Crescent and Grafton Street in the Rosemount area.
The move follows a survey carried out in the areas concerned and has been agreed by Derry City Council.
The PSNI has also given its backing to the move stressing the areas concerned had experienced anti-social behaviour.
Police and other partners are providing £4,500 to the initiative through its Policing Within the Community Fund while Derry City Council, which is contributing £1,500, will be responsible for the upkeep of the gates.
