If you are looking for a new challenge, exercise and a chance to help improve the countryside, check out the volunteer opportunities with the Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership.
Over the next three months, there will be tree planting in various sites throughout the valley, providing free training in path construction and organising a variety of stream clean ups.
Mayor of Derry Cllr Martin Reilly has encouraged members of the public to volunteer.
He said: “The Faughan Valley is a beautiful place to be, stretching from Park through Claudy, Drumahoe and Eglinton to the edge of the City.
“By volunteering people get the opportunity to enjoy this landscape, as well as help to protect it for future generations.”
Those interested in volunteering are urged to register now by contacting Annie Mullan, Community Engagement Officer at 028 71337498 or email [email protected].
The Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme involves a working partnership between RAPID, Derry City Council and the Woodland Trust supported by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and “Landscape Partnerships.”
The project vision is to “create a vibrant, natural and cultural diverse landscape within the Faughan Valley that the whole community appreciates, and is engaged with, making it a sustainable landscape for living.”
The Faughan Valley project covers a large area of 170 square kilometres (nearly 17,000 hectares) extending from the foothills of the North Sperrins, along the River Faughan, to the outskirts of the city.
