A major search of the River Foyle in Derry is taking place after personal belongings were found on Foyle Bridge this morning.
The Sligo-based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter and the local Foyle Search and Rescue are taking part in the search.
It is understood among the items found were a watch and a passport belonging to a man in his 20s.
A PSNI spokesperson said police received a report the belongings had been found on the bridge around 7.40am this morning, .
It is understood the items were discovered by two runners who immediately waved down a passing taxi who in turn contacted police
The police spokesperson said: “Searches are taking place in the area however nothing has been found to date.”
The spokesperson added: “Police would appeal to anyone who was in the vicnity of the bridge this morning and who noticed anyone in the area to contact them at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
