A book of condolence is to be opened as a mark of respect for Simon Chase, the Limavady man killed in a suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan on Friday last.
The book was agreed to be opened by all political parties at last night’s meeting Limavady Borough Council.
The former British army soldier, originally from Liverpool, had served with both the Cheshire and Royal Irish Regiments.
It is understood he was working in Afghanistan for a private security firm had only returned to the worn-torn country recently after spending Christmas at home with his family.
Originally from Liverpool, he had been living in Co Derry town with his partner and two sons and had become well-known through working in a variety of security roles, including jobs as a doorman and Sweet Nightclub and The Corner Bar.
He was also involved in the running of Limavady Amateur Boxing Club.
The Union flag at the town’s United Services Club has been lowered to half mast as a mark of respect.
Twenty-one people were killed in the gun and bomb attack at the Taverna du Liban Lebanese restaurant in capital Kabul.
A suicide attacker detonated his explosives outside the gate of the heavily fortified restaurant before two gunmen entered the restaurant and started “indiscriminately killing” people inside.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
