Derry’s Eunan O’Kane earned the “man of the match” award despite Bournemouth’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Premiership giants Liverpool earlier today.
The 23-year-old was awarded the accolade by former Republic of Ireland international Andy Townsend who was commentating on ITV’s live coverage of the clash earlier today.
The midfielder, once on Everton’s books, was chosen for his performance in”illustrious company” and for keeping his side in contention for the majority of the game.
O’Kane spent two years with Everton as a youth team player before joining Coleraine in September 2009.
He left the Showgrounds at the turn of the year to join Torquay United where he was to be named in the PFA Team of the Year of League Two.
After the end of 2011/12 season, he turned down a £175,000 transfer to Crawley Town eventually moving to Bournemouth where he has established himself as a favourite with the fans of the Cherries.
After representing Northern Ireland at under-age levels, O’Kane decided to switch allegiance to the Republic of Ireland in October 2011, receiving his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad in May 2012 for a European U21 Championship qualifier against Italy.
You can catch his performance against Liverpool when highlights of the game will be shown on UTV at 10.45pm.
