Stone and paint bomb attacks on homes and murals in The Fountain estate in Derry over the past two nights have been condemned.
Kyle Thompson, chairperson of Foyle UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) and Fountain resident, said it was “disappointing” sectarianism was “rearing its ugly head” after a period of relative calm.
Homes in The Fountain in were attacked by stone throwers on Friday night while last night two murals were damaged in a paint bomb attack, according to Mr Thompson who called for an end to the attacks.
Mr Thompson said: “As the anniversary of Bloody Sunday approaches, we would appeal to those responsible to respect the civil rights of residents of The Fountain and allow them to live in peace.”
He added: “UKIP Foyle members removed the paint damage at first light on Sunday morning.”
Mr Thompson said local UKIP members would be meeting with the PSNI tomorrow regarding the incidents and to discuss “a way forward.”
