Police in Derry are asking for the public’s help in tracing a man following the attempted hijacking of a van in the city this morning.
Detectives are appealing for information after a masked man approached a van parked outside a shop on the Buncrana Road shortly before 8.00am.
The man attempted to smash a passenger window with before attempting to get into the vehicle and threatening the driver who was inside.
No entry was gained and the driver was able to drive off.
The man is described as being approximately 5’8″ tall and of medium build.
He was wearing a light grey coat, jeans and a balaclava covering his face.
He made off on foot in the direction of Templemore Sports Complex.
A PSNI spokesperson said detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information to contact them at Strand Road CID on 0845 600 8000.
