Derry athletes braved atrocious weather conditions to bring home individual and team honours from the prestigious Northern Ireland and Ulster Cross Country Championships run in Lurgan on Saturday.
Foyle Valley’s Sarah Lindsay – the current Northern Ireland and Ulster cross country novice champion – battled against driving rain to take the runner-up spot in the intermediate/masters 4k race in a time of 17.52, seven seconds behind Omagh Harrier Michelle Sturm.
Foyle Valley AC ladies clinched second place in the intermediate ladies category ahead of City of Derry Spartans in third place.
Sarah Lindsay, Martina McMullan, Charlene McIntyre and Denise McElhone were the point scorings for Foyle Valley while Aoife Laverty, Ciara Fraser, Janeen Leese and Camilla McGranaghan registered points for the Spartans.
The Sparta ladies also took third spot in the ladies masters event with Hannah Shields, Jackie McGinley, Camila McGranaghan and Claire Connor the point scorers.
Foyle Valley took third spot in the unior/intermediate 10k with Scott Rankin, Keith Shiels, Chris McGuinness, Adrian McGowan, Pius McIntyre and Steven Connor registering scores.
