The robbery of a shop in the Galliagh area yesterday morning has been condemned by a local Sinn Féin councillor who has called on anyone with information to pass it on to police.
Cllr Elisha McCallion said it was “ridiculous” a shop that was providing a vital service for the local community should be “targeted in such a way.”
She was speaking after the robbery of a shop at Fairview Road shortly before 10.35am in which two men escaped with a sum of money from the till.
Cllr McCallion said: “This must have been a very frightening experience for members of staff.
“It’s the last thing anyone would expect to happen on a Sunday morning.
“It is ridiculous that a shop that is providing a vital service for the local community is targeted in such a way.”
Cllr McCallion concluded: “I would appeal for anyone with information on this robbery to contact the police”
Investigating PSNI detectives have asked anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact them at Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they could contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
