Derry City’s under-19 striker George Kelly hasbeen called up for Republic of Ireland under-18 squad for internationals against Wales later this month.
Kelly has played influential role in the Brandywell club being on the threshold of clinching the Northern Division of the Under-19 League of Ireland.
Eddie Seydak’s side will clinch the title if they beat near neighbours Finn Harps in their last match of the season at Caratra Park this Wednesday night.
Kelly, second highest goalscorer in the division with four goals, has been included in the 22-man under-18 squad for two back-to-back friendlies against Wales at Ozier Park, Waterford and Tramore AFC, Waterford, on Sunday and Monday 16 and 17 February.
Also included in the squad are Finn Harps trio Darragh Black, Christopher Flanagan and Joe McIntyre.
The squad is managed by former Derry City midfielder Paul Doolin who said the games would be seen as an opportunity for the cream of the talent in the Under-19 League to put themselves into contention for a place in future under-19 international panels also managed by the Dubliner.
