Roddy Collins collected his piece of silverware as Derry City manager with a comfortable 4-0 victory over city neighbours Institute in the annual pre-season Billy Kee Memorial Cup game played at the Riverside, Drumahoe tonight.
Last year’s leading goalscorer Rory Patterson took up where he left off last season to put the Brandywell side in front when he converted a 25th minute penalty awarded for a push on Barry.
Defender Ryan McBride doubled the lead two minutes before the break when he came forward for a corner and rose unchallenged to head home from six yards.
New signing Mark Stewart wasted a glorious opportunity to put the game beyond Institute with a contender for “miss of the season” early in the second half.
Enda Curran, introduced at the half time break, eventually put the match out of the reach of the hosts when he fired home a spot kick awarded after second half substitute, Chris Tsonis, was bundled over in penalty box in the 71st minute.
Barry completed the scoring to make it four-nil following good work by Curran.
