Children as young as ten years old have been involved in street disturbances near Derry’s Fountain Estate, according to police in the city.
PSNI Chief Inspector Jon Burrows has appealed to parents be aware of what their children were getting up to and warned youngsters involved would be reported to Social Services and the youth justice system.
Two young boys, aged 13 and 14, were arrested for suspected riotous behaviour on Sunday night last when trouble broke at the Fountain Estate-Bishop Street interface.
Police came under attack when they went to investigate reports of petrol bombs being thrown into the predominantly Protestant Fountain from the nationalist Bishop Street area.
The two teens arrested were released on bail pending further police enquiries.
There were minor disturbances in the area on Monday night and last night when rubbish was set alight at the bottom the Lecky Road flyover,
CI Burrows revealed police were studying CCTV footage suggested children as young as ten were involved in the disorder.
