Former Sheffield United and Dumbarton defender Aaron Barry has become Derry City manager Roddy Collins latest signing.
The 21-year-old has been signed after impressing in pre-season training.
He also featured in Derry’s first pre-season game of the season – a 4-0 Billy Kee Memorial Cup win over Institute at Drumahoe on Tuesday night last.
Barry joined Sheffield United having been recommended by Arklow Town and was a member of the Blades academy side that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2011 which led to him being rewarded with a first senior contract in March 2012.
After being an unused substitute on a number of occasions during the 2012-2013 season, he was awarded a one year professional contract in June last year.
However, last August he was allowed to join Scottish side Dumbarton on loan, initially for a six month period and made his debut for the Sons a couple of days later in a Scottish League Cup first-round match against Albion Rovers.
Barry was a regular for Dumbarton during the first half of the season, making 22 appearances for the Scottish club before being recalled by Sheffield United in January last month at the end of his agreed loan term.
He becomes becomes Roddy Collins’ seventh signing since taking over the managerial reins at Brandywell from Declan Devine, the others being Cliff Byrne, Mark Stewart, Roddy Collins Junior, Enda Curran, Danny Ventre and Ciaran Gallagher.
