Pupils from St Mary’s College in Derry are the latest group to pledge support to the city’s Mayor’s Charity Three Bridge Walk taking place later this month.
Girls from the Northland Road school have already starting gathering in sponsorship being held on Saturday 22 February in aid of Macmillan Cancer, Mayor Reilly’s chosen charity.
Local coach company Airporter is also on board to help out on the day by transporting walkers from the end of the route back to their vehicles at the Waterfoot Hotel.
Mayor Reilly has called on as many people as possible to take part.
He said: “We have already received a number of requests for sponsorship forms since we launched the event last week.
“People of all ages, abilities and reasons for participating have been in touch and it is heartwarming to receive such a positive response so far. Delighted that St Mary’s and Aiporter have joined the Waterfront Hotel and Estate Services all of whom will lend their support to this event on the day.
He concluded: “I am calling for everyone to get involved, for what will be a fun and rewarding event and to help raise money to support the many people in the North West who are affected by cancer.”
Registration will take place at 10.00am on the morning of the walk which will set off at 11.00am and follow a route over Foyle Bridge, along Queens’s Quay, over the Peace Bridge, through Ebrington and across Craigavon Bridge, before finishing at the Tourist Information Office in Foyle Street.
All proceeds raised at the 3-Bridge Walk will go directly to the Macmillan Cancer Support. Minimum entry fee is £5 per person and sponsorship forms are available by contacting Karen Henderson on 71365151 Ex 6754 / by email: [email protected] or through the Mayor’s dedicated website – www.derrycity.gov.uk/mayor.
