Work is to begin next week on a £215,000 road resurfacing scheme at Victoria Road in Newbuildings.
The work, which is to last for approximately three weeks, will `”greatly improve” the strength and quality of the main Derry to Strabane road running through the village, Regional Devlopment Minister Danny Kennedy said.
The work will begin on Monday next and is expected to be completed by 4 March next.
To facilitate the work, the road will be closed over two weekends – Saturday and Sunday, 22 and 23 February and the following Saturday and Sunday, 1 and 2 March.
The Victoria Road will be closed from its junction with the Duncastle Road for a distance of 500 metres.
Diversion routes will be signposted.
Traffic travelling towards Derry will be diverted from Strabane via A38 Lifford Road, N14 Letterkenny Road and R265 Rossgier Road in Co. Donegal.
Traffic travelling towards Strabane will be diverted via B48 Duncastle Road and B49 Berryhill Road.
Access will be maintained for residents and businesses.
At other times during the duration of the work, temporary traffic control measures in the form of stop-go boards will be operational.
Mr Kennedy stressed the planned dates were subject to favourable weather conditions and Roads Service would keep the public informed of any change.
Mr Kennedy added: “Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.”
