Former Shamrock Rovers and Hamilton Academical defender, David Elebert, is expected to undergo a medical at Derry City today with a view to signing for the Brandywell club.
If the move does go ahead, it will be Roddy Collins eighth signing since taking over the managerial reins from Declan Devine – he has already captured the signatures of Aaron Barry, Cliff Byrne, Mark Stewart, Roddy Collins Junior, Enda Curran, Danny Ventre and Ciaran Gallagher.
A free agent, he looks set to join the new look City squad after impressing during a two week trial period.
Dubliner Elebert (27) began his career in 2004 as a trainee at Preston North End but failed to make any first team appearances for the club.
After a loan spell at Scarborough in 2005, he was signed by Hamilton in January 2006, for whom he scored eight goals in 135 appearances.
After a move to Ayr United at the end of the 2010/11 season fell through due to a hamstring injury, he joined Icelandic club Fylkir in April 2012 before signing for Shamrock Rovers in February last year.
He was called up to the Republic of Ireland’s under-21s in May 2008 and made his debut against Malaysia’s under-23s later that month, captaining the side against Nigeria in his next game.
