Two people were taken to hospital following a house fire in the Racecourse Road area of Derry in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Fire crews from Northland and Crescent Link stations attended a blaze which involved a mattress at a terrace house in Maybrook Park shortly after 4.00am.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to deal with the incident.
A 37 year old man and a 42 year old woman were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation.
A spokesperson for Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said a smoke alarm was fitted in the property but had failed to activate.
