Proposals to link two Derry schools by a “unique and innovative” bridge have been welcomed by the North’s Education Minister, John O’Dowd.
During a visit to the two schools involved – St Mary’s High and Limavady High – Mr O’Dowd heard proposals for “increased sharing” between the two and viewed the location of the proposed “Unity Bridge.”
Speaking after the visit, Mr O’Dowd said the proposal to connect the two schools via a bridge is a “unique and innovative” project which would further strengthen the links between the schools and provide a safe way for pupils to transfer between sites.
He added: “The Unity Bridge project is a visionary one and I congratulate the two schools on their commitment to increase sharing, something which I as Minister am committed to advance. I also commend Limavady Borough Council for their continued help and support in securing the necessary funding to bring the project to fruition.”
During his visit the Minister had a short tour of each school including the Technology Department at Limavady High School and the sixth form centre at St Mary’s.
