Roddy Collins’ new look Derry City will run out at Brandywell for the first time tonight for a pre-season friendly with Glentoran which is being staged as a fundraiser for Mark Farren, the former City striker who is currently undergoing preventative treatment for a brain tumour.

After a frustrating start to the pre-season preparations which saw four pre-arranged games fall foul of the inclement weather, Derry eventually got up and running last week with two comfortable wins – a 4-0 win over Institute last Tuesday which was followed with a 2-0 victory over Cliftonville on Saturday last.

As in those two games, Collins is expected to give a “run out” to as many as of his squad as possible, including latest signing David Elebert, the former Shamrock Rovers defender putting pen to paper yesterday after impressing during a trial period with the Candy Stripes.

One trialist who will not feature is Chris Tsonis, formerly of  Tindastóll (Iceland), whose services have not been retained.

Admission to tonight’s game, which has a 7.45pm kick, with all proceeds to Mark Farren.
