Foyle MP Mark Durkan has pledged to stand firm against all forms of animal cruelty after attending a reception at Westminster marking the ninth anniversary of the Hunting Act.
The SDLP representative said: “I am delighted to support the RSPCA, the League Against Cruel Sports and the International Fund for Animal Welfare in their ongoing efforts to tackle all forms of animal cruelty – from banning wild animals in circuses at home to commercial whaling abroad.
“The Hunting Act prohibited the hunting of wild mammals, including foxes, deer, hares and mink with dogs – and importantly signified that hunting animals for sport has no place in modern society.”
