Lives are being put in danger in the Galliagh area of Derry by the “anti-social” use of scrambler motorbikes, a local councillor has said.
Sinn Fein Cllr Elisha McCallion said she had received a “number of complaints” about the use of scramblers and that green spaces in the area were being “ripped up” and damaged by such bikes.
She added: “These vehicles are also being driven erratically in front of motorists travelling along the Glengalliagh Road.
“And that in some cases they are being driven along the footpaths placing pedestrians in serious danger as well as young children out playing in the street.”
Cllr McCallion said anyone who information on who was behind “this anti community activity” should report it to the PSNI, Housing Executive and Road Service so those involved in endangering lives and destroying green spaces could be prosecuted.
Cllr McCallion’s comments follow a police appeal last week for information on a rider of a scrambler bike who drove round the Galliagh area endangering the life of a one year old toddler on board.
It is believed the child, who the rider had between his legs, was approximately one year old.
