Derry City take on North West neighbours in a hastily arranged pre-season friendly at the Vale Centre in Greysteel this afternoon (kick off 3.00pm).
The game has been arranged as a result Derry’s build-up to the start of the new Airtricity Premiership – which begins on 7 March – being severely hampered with five pre-arranged friendlies being cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.
Yesterday’s game against a Derry and District select was the latest to be called off – others were away games at Limavady United, Coleraine and Newbuildings. Last Tuesday’s clash with Glentoran at Brandywell was also postponed.
New Derry boss Roddy Collins is expected to use this afternoon’s game to give a run out to Akanni-Sunday Wasiu, who played under the Dubliner when he was in charge of Fliorana of Malta, before considering making the Nigerian his eighth signing since taking over the managerial reins at Brandywell.
Harps manager Ollie Horgan is expected to continue to experiment with his side which were defeated by an impressive Sligo Rovers in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Derry’s postponed game against the D&D Select has been re-scheduled to take place at Brandywell this Wednesday night, kick of 7.45pm.
