A radio programme presented by Derry man Stephen McCauley has been shortlisted for a prestigious accolade at a top awards festival promoting the languages and cultures of Celtic countries on screen and in broadcasting.
Electric Mainline, presented by Stephen McCauley on BBC Radio Foyle, has been nominated in the Best Music Programme at the Celtic Media Festival taking place in St Ives, Cornwall from 2-4 April next.
The festival celebrates broadcasting and film talent from Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, Wales and Brittany.
Electric Mainline, produced and directed by Larry Deeney, specialises in unearthing local music ignored by major record labels and mainstream radio/television programming.
The show acts as a level-crossing. In one direction, local/unsigned bands enjoy their debut airplay and take their first step towards a wider audience. In the other direction, Stephen brings experimental/underground music to a regional audience who would not, otherwise, be exposed to it.
Numerous bands have made their radio debuts on the Electric Mainline including Two Door Cinema Club, Ryan Vail, Girls Names and SOAK.
The programme is regarded as essential listening by many aspiring musicians in the North West.
