Former Derry City manager Pat Fenlon is the favourite to succeed David Jeffrey as Linfield boss.
Jeffrey announced on Saturday that he will step down at the end of the season after 17 years in charge at Windsor Park.
Fenlon (44), who has been out of work since quitting as Hibernian manager in October last, spent two successful seasons with the Blues who he joined in 1994.
Dubliner Fenlon resigned as Derry City manager in May 2007 after just five months in the job, citing personal reasons for his decision to leave. He had succeeded Stephen Kenny at the Brandywell.
At the time, Derry were fifth in the Eircom League and then City chairperson Hugh McDaid said Fenlon’s domestic situation was the sole cause for his departure.
Mr McDaid said: “Things were going very well as far as we were concerned and we are very disappointed Pat is leaving,” he said.
Former Northern Ireland striker David Healy has also been linked with the Windsor Park post.
