The funeral of tragic Derry teenager Andrew Quigley is to take place this Friday.
The remains of the 19-year-old, whose body was recovered from the River Foyle shortly after 9.00am yesterday, were brought to his home in Galliagh at 12.45am this morning following a post mortem examination in Belfast.
There were heartbreaking scenes as his coffin was carried into his home at Knockalla Park after which over 100 family members and friends gathered outside to say the Rosary.
Andrew, who had been battling a drug and alcohol addiction, had not been seen after he left a friend’s birthday party in the early hours of 18 January last. Some of his personal items were found on Foyle Bridge at 7.40am later that morning.
Since then, his family and friends had maintained daily searches of the river banks.
Following his disappearance and after it was revealed he would not be helped overcome his addictions until he quit his habits, a campaign was launched for the setting up of a detox centre in the city.
Andrew’s remains will remain at his home in Knockalla Park from where they will be taken to the nearby St Joseph’s Church for 11.00am Requiem Mass on Friday.
