Two former Derry City players have been nominated two top awards at the Republic of Ireland International Player of the Year awards.
Ex-City winger James McClean, now with Wigan Athletic, has been shortlisted for the International Young Player of the Year award while Millwall’s David Forde, former Candy Stripes goalkeeper, has been nominated for the Senior International Player of the Year.
Derry-born McClean (24), a regular in the Republic’s set-up, took to Twitter following Wigan’s 2-0 win over Paddy McCourt’s Barnsley, to express his delight at his nomination.
He tweeted: “Good solid win keep momentum going, overshadowed my bens injury, hope he has a speedy recovery top lad and player.”
He added: “Over the moon aswell to nominated for irish international young player of the year.”
Former City midfielder, Killian Brennan, who played an influential role in St Patrick’s winning last season’s Airtricity Premiership title, is nominated for the SSE Airtricity League Player of the Year Award.
Another Derry-born player, Shane Duffy, currently on loan at Yeovil from Everton, has been nominated for the International Under-21 Player of the Year award.
Donegal’s Seamus Coleman, currently receiving rave reviews for his performances with Premership side Everton, is also nominated for the Senior International Player of the Year accolade.
The winners will be announced on 2 March at RTÉ Studios with the event broadcast live on RTÉ Two and RTÉ.ie.

U16 international player of the year: Anthony Dolan, Robert Duggan, George Poynton.
Junior international player of the year: Paul Breen, Darren Dunne, Shane Waters.
Intermediate player of the year: Martin Cramer, Andrew Neville, Malachy McDermott.
Football for All international player of the year: Marc Bigger, Joe Markey, Noel O’Donnell.
