Dr Michael Dobbins has been appointed principal of a new special needs school in Derry following the amalgamation Belmont House and Foyle View Schools.
Dr Dobbins, the current head of Foyle View, is expected to take up the new role in the near future ahead of the merger of the two schools in September.
Dr Dobbins, named Northern Ireland’s secondary school head teacher of the year in 2009, has been principal of Foyleview for the past 15 years, having previously spent eight years at Belmont.
He said it had been privilege to have worked with both Foyleview and Belmont and the the merger was the “best opportunity” to improve educational services for children and young people with additional needs for decades.
