Applications are now open for a joint Legacy Fund from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Derry City Council.
The Arts Council has pledged £450,000 to the city’s cultural programme which has been match funded by Derry City Council, resulting in a £900,000 total.
The Fund has been established to ensure continued investment in the arts and cultural sector in Derry, to build on the achievements of the year as City of Culture 2013 and help achieve the long-term targets of Derry’s Regeneration Plan: the One Plan (“One City One Plan One Voice).
One of the goals of the new Legacy Fund is to attract under-represented groups and communities to the centre of Derry’s cultural life.
Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly said: “As part of Derry City Councils’ legacy commitment from the amazingly successful 2013 year of culture, we are delighted to match the Arts Council’s financial support from our £2m designated Legacy investment.
“This will enable continued support to the arts and culture sector and will provide new opportunities to highlight the exceptional talent within this city.
“We are now calling for applications across all sections of the community in our local organisations and cultural venues.
“We are looking forward to receiving a range of exciting programming ideas for this fund but don’t worry if you don’t get your application submitted this time, there will be a second round of applications which will open later this year.”
The Legacy Fund supports the Arts Council’s ongoing commitment to the city’s creative life.
Capital investment in building and renovating the city’s major arts and cultural venues helped to establish the infrastructure required to secure the original City of Culture bid.A further £1,000,000 specifically for the City of Culture programme, supplemented an annual funding of £1.79 million that goes to the city’s venues and arts organisations.
An additional investment of £100,000 to the ‘Culture For All’ small grants programme, with the Big Lottery fund, enabled communities across Northern Ireland to participate and share in the success of City of Culture.
The deadline for Legacy Fund applications is Thursday, 20 March next. . Further information and be found here
