The funeral will take place this morning of tragic Derry teenager Andrew Quigley, whose body was recovered from the River Foyle on Monday last.
The family and friends of the 19 year-old had spent the previous four weeks searching the river banks daily after he went missing in the early hours of 18 January last.
Foyle Search and Rescue, who also carried out daily searches of the river, thanked all those who helped out, especially the City Hotel, Everglades Hotel, Belfray Country Inn, Sandwich Company and Dominoes who provided food for the search teams.
They also thanked the Quigley family and members of the the public who offered support.
Craig Smyth, of Foyle Search and Rescue, said he hoped the family would now get closure and the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the charity were with the Quigley family.
Following Andrew’s disappearance a major campaign, led by his family, got under way to have a detox unit set up in Derry after it emerged he had battled a drug and alcohol addiction and had been told he could not be helped until he quit the habits.
Andrew’s remains will be taken from his home at 4 Knockalla Park in Galliagh to the nearby St Joseph’s Church for Requiem Mass at 11.00am.
He will be laid to rest immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
