Goalscoring sensation Stephen O’Flynn was on target again yesterday as his ninth goal in five games gave Institute a deserved 1-0 away win over Championship contenders Bangor.
O’Flynn, signed during the January “transfer window,” struck in the 10th minute to end Bangor’s 100 per cent record on their 3G surface.
It was a game that the Cork man proved he was human as he and fellow striker Stephen Parkhouse missed clear cut first half chances to put the game beyond the hosts.
The visitors survived an early scare in the second half when Grant Gardiner’s free-kick, which had ’Stute keeper Michael Doherty well beaten, crashed against the crossbar.
The Seasiders’ made Institute’s task of taking all three points when they had Stephen O’Neill and Thomas Wray sent off.
The win sees the Derry side move into second place ahead of Bangor, three points behind Carrick who defeated Stute’s North West neighbours Limavady United.
