Three of Derry’s best known pubs have been recognised for their commitment to high levels of customer care and responsible attitude to the sale of alcohol.
Gold Standard Awards were presented to the Monaco Bar, Bentley Bar and Mason’s Bar by the city’s Mayor who kickstarted the Civil Alcohol Forum’s initiative at a reception in the Guildhall.
The Gold Standard is an award that has been developed by the Civic Alcohol Forum (CAF) in Derry for licensed premises in order to recognise the commitment of licensees to high standards of customer care and their support for the vision of the Civic Alcohol Forum of a clean, safe and vibrant region with a responsible attitude to alcohol that protects future generations from alcohol related harm.
Mayor Martin Reilly, who is the chairperson of the Civic Alcohol Forum, said the achievement by licensed premises was “great news” for the city and a step forward to addressing the culture of irresponsible consumption of alcohol that existed locally, regionally and nationally.
Mayor Reilly added: “One of the successes of the Civic Alcohol Forum in Derry has been the willingness of the licensed trade to engage with Statutory and Community organisations in order to try to address Alcohol Misuse.”
He concluded: “The role of the licensed trade in selling alcohol responsibly and in managing premises in a way that ensures the safety of customers is vital and those premises that strive to achieve excellence in doing so should be publicly recognised.”
