The occupiers of a house in the Ballyarnett area of Derry were alerted to a fire in their home by a smoke alarm, the Northern Ireland Fire Service has revealed.
Fire crews from Northland Road and Crescent Link stations dealt with the blaze which broke out in a semi-detached house in Ballyarnett Village shortly after 4.30pm yesterday.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet, a covering jet and thermal image camera to deal with the fire.
A Fire Service spokesperson said: “Activating smoke alarms alerted occupier of the danger.”
It was the second time in two days fire crews dealt with house fires in which the alarm was raised by smoke detectors.
At lunchtime on Saturday last, fire appliances from Northland and Crescent Link stations attended a blaze in a detached bungalow in the Culmore area.
An activated smoke alarm alerted a neighbour to the fire.
