The retaining wall in “bay” area of Culmore Point is to undergo essential maintenance to prevent flooding.

Cllr Angela Dobbins.

The work was agreed by Derry City Council, Rivers Agency, Loughs Agency and Roads Service at a special meeting held today of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee.

The decision has been welcomed by SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins who pointed out that although the wall was not a sea defence wall, it’s current state of erosion and disrepair was a contributing factor to the flooding problems at Culmore Point Road.

Cllr Dobbins added: “It was duly noted by the attending statutory bodies that if maintenance was not given a priority, further problems would arise.”

The meeting was called after concerns were raised about continuous flooding in the Culmore Point area.
