A Derry man is due in court today charged with poisoning a prison officer.
The 21-year-old is charged with using mebeverine to poison a female officer on 21 May last year.
The alleged offence is understood to have occurred while he was on remand awaiting sentencing on burglary charges.
Mebeverine is a drug whose major therapeutic role is in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and associated abdominal cramping.
The man, who is currently an inmate in Hydebank Wood Young Offenders Centre and Prison, is due to appear at Belfast Crown Court.
