A charity walk in memory of Andrew Quigley, the Derry teenager whose tragic death launched a campaign for a detox centre to be set up in the city, will take place this afternoon.

Andrew’s body was recovered from the River Foyle earlier this month.

The 19-year-old had been missing from 18 January last after a number of his personal belongings were found on Foyle Bridge.

The campaign for the detox centre was launched after Andrew’s mother, Colette, revealed he had sought help for a drug and alcohol addition but was told none would be available until he quit his habits.

Today’s walk, which will leave the quayside next to the Sainsbury’s store at Meadowbank at 1.00pm, will be in aid of Foyle Search and Rescue who played a leading role in the search for Andrew’s body.
