The £190,000 improvement scheme on the C552 “Five Mile Straight” from Glenshane to the Brackaghreilly Road in Magherafelt is set to move into its second phase, Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced.
Mr Kennedy said the “significant investment” would “greatly improve” the strength and surface quality of these busy routes within the area.
Preliminary work began on the stretch of road known as the “Five Mile Straight” this week.
The scheme, which is expected to take a total of four weeks to complete, will require a road closure for one week to facilitate the laying of the final surfacing.
To help minimise any inconvenience to road users and the wider local communities, the majority of the work is scheduled to be completed using lane closures.
However, to help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, road closures will be necessary from 24 to 29 March.
All diversions will be clearly sign posted, and will be in place on Glenshane Road southwards to A29 Tobermore Road via Tobermore and northwards to Lisnamuck Road.
As with all improvement schemes of this type the scheduled dates are subject to favourable weather conditions. Roads Service will keep the public informed of any change.
Mr Kennedy said: “Roads Service has carefully scheduled the improvements and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however, drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.”
