Hosted by the Derry City Council’s Sports and Leisure Department the event, taking place on Wednesday, 26 March, is being staged with the support of Triathlon Ireland and North West Triathlon Club we will see local primary and post primary pupils taking to the pool and track for the exciting event.

Pupils aged between eight and 15 years will undertake a pool swim followed by a run within the centre grounds.

This event follows a year of successful triathlon events within the city including the Firmus Triathlon and the 2013 Kids TRYathlon and will continue to showcase the growing sport of Triathlon within the North West.

Welcoming the programme, Derry Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly  said he supported any project that encouraged physical exercise, good relations and a healthy lifestyle.

He added: “I look forward to attending on the day and watching our children completing their first Aquathon.

“I want to further congratulate Derry City Council Sports and Leisure Team and North West Triathlon Club for their efforts in running events such as this and promoting the sporting legacy in 2013 from a range of events including the Walled City Marathon in both engaging additional user groups and building on these sporting events year on year.”
