Today’s visit by former US President Bill Clinton is “both welcome and appreciated,” Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has said.
Mr Clinton is due in Derry today when, at 12.30pm, he will address crowds in Guildhall Square to pay tribute to former SDLP leader and Nobel Laureate John Hume.
He will also help launch Peacemaking In The Twenty-First Century, a new book on peacemaking, on behalf of the University of Ulster.
The book features a series of Tip O’Neill lectures, one delivered by President Clinton, at the unversity’s Magee campus in Derry.
Former first lady and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan have also taken part in the Tip O’Neill Lecture Series.
Today is Mr Clinton’s fifth visit to Derry – he first visited the city in 1995 when he also addressed crowds in the city’s Guildhall Square.
