Police in Derry are understood to be helping Gardai hunt for a gang who stole two shotguns and a hunting knife from a house close to the Derry-Donegal border.police

The raiders broke into the house at Rooskey on the outskirts of Newtowncunningham between 1.00pm and 2.00pm yesterday  and used a shovel and crowbar to smash open a locked gun-chest containing his guns

The owner of the house, whose son in a keen hunter, arrived back in the afternoon to find the house ransacked.

A substantial amount of money was also taken which was being saved by a young man in the house for a function.

Gardai are trying to trace the movements of a blue or green car with possibly a Northern Ireland registration seen acting suspiciously in the area at the time.
