“WE WERE REPAIRING MURAL, NOT VANDALISING IT” – SAY WOMEN

Two women accused of vandalising a mural painted on a wall in Derry’s Bogside area to celebrate International Women’s Day have said they were repairing damage to the creation when spotted by MEP Martina Anderson.

The Sinn Fein representative had claimed she saw two women damaging the artwork at Little Diamond on Wednesday night, describing it as “shameful.”

However, one of the women has contacted Derry Daily to say they were repairing damage already caused to the mural.

She said: “”It was not attacked. Myself and a friend had left another friend’s house in the Little Diamond and the ends of the billboard were flapping and hanging off the wall.

“It was unsafe so we took the end panel off and laid it on the ground. We did not touch it or vandalise it.”
