The PSNI in Derry are liaising with Gardai in the search for the occupants of a car which was disturbed during what officers believe was a crime gang’s bid to carry out house raids in Donegal.
It follows an incident in which a man was arrested in Letterkenny on Wednesday.
Martin Stokes, from Derry, appeared in court in Sligo yesterday charged with 36 separate driving offences.
He will appear in court again in Letterkenny on Monday next.
Gardaí are now searching for a second car which was spotted in and around Ardara on Wednesday afternoon with a number of males inside.
Officers believe the men – who fled the town at high speed – may have driven across the Border.
They are liaising with colleagues in the PSNI to identify the gang members.
Gardaí believe good police work prevented a series of planned break-ins in and around the Ardara and Glenties areas.
A special team has been set up to coordinate a high level investigation into a series of robberies in the county in recent weeks.
It’s understood detectives are looking at suspects from both Derry and Donegal in several different investigations.
Some of those suspects may now be armed after stealing weapons belonging to a burglary victim in Newtowncunningham earlier this week.
So far no-one has been arrested in the hunt for the gang behind robberies at the homes of six elderly people in the east of the county in late January and early February.
