The provision of new new accommodation units for Gaelscoil na Daróige in Derry, has been welcomed by local Sinn Fein Councillor Eric McGinley.
Cllr McGinley said Gaelscoil na Daróige was a thriving Irish language facility which was gaining increasing support from parents and the children who were entitled to quality accommodation and space which would assist in meeting their educational needs.
He added: “In response to representations to Sinn Féin made by Gaelscoil na Daróige, MLA Raymond McCartney contacted the Department of Education supporting the school’s request for new four class accommodation.”
Cllr McGinley said having recently visited the school himself, the need for increased space was “clear to see.”
He added “We welcome the Department’s decision this week to agree to the installation of accommodation units subject to receiving the necessary planning approvals.”
Cllr McGinley concluded: “The Minister’s decision is another clear example of support for Irish language and Sinn Féin will also continue to work on behalf of Irish medium schools in the city.”
