Derry City manager Roddy Collins has confirmed Scottish midfielder Paul McGovern has joined the Candystripes – making him the Dubliner’s 10th signing since taking over the managerial role at the Brandywell club.
Glaswegian McGovern (33) began his football at Celtic, signing at the age of 16.
After a loan spell at Sheffield United, he joined Livingston, contributing to their victorious 2003–04 Scottish League Cup campaign.
He joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2004 and played a key part of the Owls’ play-off winning side in 2005, scoring a goal in the semi final against Brentford and a goal in the final against Hartlepool.
However, the his appearances were limited during the 2005-2006 season due to an injury and after being released by Wednesday, he joined Milton Keynes Dons.
After only one full season with Milton Keynes, he was signed by Swindon Town whose away supporters voted him their Player of they Year for 2009-2010.
He returned to Scotland last year, signing for Northern League Division One side Celtic Nation.
