A number local women will be honoured for their contribution to their local communities at a special “tea party” being held in the Gasyard Centre this afternoon.
The event is being held as part of the celebrations to mark International Women’s Day taking place in Derry today.
Earlier, a new mural will be unveiled at Free Derry Wall to mark the 100th anniversary of Cumann naBann and their important contribution to Irish history.
The unveiling will take place at 1.00pm and will be followed by the launch of a programme of events for 2014 in the Sinn Féin offices at Ráth Mór.
Also this lunchtime, a discussion on women’s influence on traditional music will hosted by BBC presenter Lynette Fay in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin.
The role of women in Irish traditional music will be celebrated at the Great James Street tonight.
A Ceol na mBan concert will bring together an eclectic line-up of contemporary female musicians and feature performances from fiddle and harp virtuosos Emma Sweeney and Laoise Kelly as well as Tyrone singer and cellist Alana Henderson and Síoda.
The concert begins at 8.oopm and tickets priced at £8.
