In the first incident, which occurred shortly after 1.35 am, a pipe bomb exploded outside a house in Lapwing Way.

Four adults and one child who were in the house at the time were not injured.

No damage was caused to the property.

Around the same time another device exploded outside a house in Lincoln Court.

Damage was caused to the front door of the property.

Four adults who were in the house at the time were not injured.

Remains of the devices were removed by British army technical officers for forensic examination.

A PSNI spokesperson said police were linking the incidents and were treating them as hate crimes.

The spokesperson added: “Police would appeal to anyone with any information about the incidents or anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary in the area of Lapwing Way or Lincoln Court late last night or early this morning to contact CID at Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the Independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
